BMW Honors 40 Years of M with New Competition Edition

If you know BMW, you likely know M is known as "the most powerful letter in the world"1. What you might not know is that the M moniker dates back to 1972. And while BMW M models are not limited to the track, they have earned championship titles at nine different North American race events, from 1996 to 2011.

To honor the M's venerable 40-year history, BMW is planning to launch 40 2012 Competition Edition M3 models featuring an exclusive Frozen Gray finish, early next year. The Frozen Gray finish is perhaps the most distinguished characteristic of the limited-production 2012 M3. Specially formulated with metallic undertones it makes the M3's sculpted body look more athletic than ever. And, to finish it all off, BMW strategically integrated black and dark-chrome accents (i.e., 19" black M3 GTS wheels, black hood intakes, and dark chrome exhaust tips).

The sporty edge continues inside the 2012 M3 Competition Edition, where drivers will not only revel in rich black leather seats and Palladium Silver accents throughout. They'll also enjoy lightweight carbon fiber trim and M3 Checkered Flag logos, signifying M models' winning genes.

Beyond displaying strong racing DNA, the all-new M3 Competition Edition offers a suite of convenience and connectivity options, including: M-Dual-Clutch Transmission with Drivelogic, navigation system with real-time traffic info., Bluetooth connectivity, iPod and USB adaptor and BMW Apps iPhone integration. And, for drivers who want to fully outfit their special-edition M3 - three packages: Competition, Cold-Weather, and Premium.
